Deborah D.E.E.P. Mouton
Founder and Executive Director

As the First Black Poet Laureate of Houston, TX, Mouton's heart for community and art is unmatched. A graduate of the University of Michigan, Mouton has over 18 years of arts administration experience. From serving as a Project Manager to being a program Director to coordinating multiple community festivals, she has a unique balance between artistic vision and its logistic execution. With a Master's degree in Education from the University of St. Thomas, her work in and out of the classroom gives her a special insight that translates the arts with fresh eyes.

A past coach of the top Nationally ranked poetry slam, Houston VIP Slam,  Simpson is a three-time Tedx Presenter, published author, and poetry slam champion. He is a culmination of grit from the Bronx, Jamaican Spice, and God's Mercy. The award-winning poet, musician and activist has served as a two-year Future Corp International Youth Ambassador, The Brave New Voices Climate Change and Public Health Competion Host at The Kennedy Center, and a workshop curator for the Brave New Voices International Summit on Poverty and Economic Justice. A recent graduate from Texas Southern University with his Doctorate in Pharmacy, Simpson served as Humanitarian Chair on the executive board of the university's Student Society of Health System Pharmacist and the Mental Health Chair on the executive board of the university's Student National Pharmaceutical Association.
